What to wear when working from home

Over on Instagram, I’ve teamed up with 3 other lovely stylists to create a series called #askthestylists. Essentially you can ask us anything style related - it could be an item you can’t work out how to style, or advice on what to wear to an occasion. Or simply if you just don’t know where to start!

For our first week, we were asked about working from home.  It’s so easy to stay in your pyjamas or your gym gear, but getting dressed for work will help your productivity - in a similar way to having dedicated office space and a routine that sets you up for the day. As one of the ladies I worked recently with said:

“I wear crappy clothes for working from home and, unsurprisingly, I feel crappy in them.”

That’s not to say that you need to wear a suit for working from home, comfort is very much allowed! Ideally you should wear things that you love and enjoy wearing - invest in soft fabrics such as cashmere or supersoft Pima cotton or a soft sweatshirt.

Colour

Wearing colour can lift your mood and even make you more productive, or give you a boost of confidence on that Skype call. Sweats, knits and tees with slogans or other design elements are always a good way to boost your mood and add a bit of fun to a day alone in the office too.

On the bottom, choose comfortable jeans or smart athleisure. I even wear shoes sometimes, as it just makes me feel like I have a proper outfit on.

Don’t underestimate the dress

Dresses are brilliant, and the reason is that you can just throw a dress on without a thought and just get on with your day! Dresses are also comfortable and don’t dig in like jeans, but feel more polished and like you’ve made a lot of effort!

Plan It

Have fun planning your outfits for the week - it’s so much easier getting dressed if you’ve thought about it beforehand or have a go-to uniform in place. Think about any meetings, Skype calls or networking events and plan ahead so you don’t get stressed out about it.

Here are some of the outfits and inspiration we found.
